Inspired by the African culture, the conceptual design of this 5-Star Hotel in Nouakchott, Mauritania aims for a horizontal design to maximize ocean views from various angles. To achieve this, a deconstructive approach was taken, breaking the structure into parts and integrating green vertical links. Rotating volumes and adjusting floor heights create connectivity and movement with the central volume housing primary functions. The grid-like facade is treated with local materials like Mousharabiyas, tinted glass and green walls to break the horizontal look and reflect both local traditional and modern architecture. This modern skin incorporates water elements to break visual monotony and promote sustainability through greenery in both the landscape and interior spaces.
The project encompasses a grand entrance lobby featuring an adjoining garden, public terraces, an Olympic-size pool, a dedicated kids’ area, cabanas, specialty restaurants, tennis courts, and ample parking facilities.
